(WAND) — Several cities are declaring snow emergencies ahead of a weekend snowstorm that is expected to bring anywhere from 4 to 12 inches of snow to parts of central Illinois.

The City of Springfield declared a snow emergency that will start at 7 a.m. Saturday and last until 12 p.m. Monday.

The city said residents are required to remove parked vehicles from designated snow emergency routes so crews can clear the roads. A map of snow emergency routes and the city's snow and ice removal policy can be found on the City of Springfield public works website.

According to a city ordinance, sidewalks next to properties need to be cleared of snow by 10 a.m. each morning following a snow event. Anyone who doesn't clear the sidewalks can be fined $250.

Savoy declared a winter weather emergency effective immediately. During the declaration, no parking is allowed along designated snow routes. The village said it will send out a notice when the declaration is over.

Mt. Zion is declaring a snow emergency effective at 6 p.m. Saturday through 12 p.m. Monday. No parking is allowed on all village streets.

The Mt. Zion Police Department can ticket and tow any vehicle parked on village streets during the snow emergency. Violators will have to pay a $100 parking fine and any fees associated with towing.

The City of Monticello declared a snow emergency effective Saturday at 9 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m. Parking is prohibited on designated snow routes, but the city said even people who do not live on snow routes should consider not parking in the roadway if possible.
