LATHAM, Ill. (WAND) - Data center developer Hut 8 has filed an application with the Village of Latham to rezone farmland for a data center project.

According to a rezoning application filed by Logan Prairie Data Center LLC, Latham Village Board members would have to agree on annexing the land for developer use.

Additionally, the application stated the project would create more than 100 permanent, full-time jobs after the facility is built.

The project would also generate "substantial" property tax revenue and work to conserve water, according to the application document.

This comes after Hut 8 was initially turned down in Logan County despite the state's attorney saying the year-long moratorium that passed May 19 is not valid under current zoning rules.

Logan County officials have revisited data center rules as Hut 8 has moved forward with new applications to build a facility in the county.

WAND News has reached out to Hut 8 for comment and has not yet heard back.

The Village of Latham Board of Trustees will vote on the plan during a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at Latham Village Hall.

Latham is a town of just over 300 people, about 25 minutes from Decatur.
