CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the new ramp from northbound Interstate 57 to westbound Interstate 74 in Champaign is set to open tonight at 9 p.m. on May 5.
The new ramp is part of the ongoing reconstruction of the I-57/74 interchange.
IDOT also notes that the ramps from northbound I-57 to eastbound I-74, as well as the ramp from eastbound I-74 to Prospect Avenue, will be closed tonight for about a month to allow for connections to new pavement.
Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time in the area. It's advisable to consider alternate routes to avoid work zones. Drivers should stay alert for changing conditions, follow posted speed limits, avoid mobile device use, and watch for workers and equipment.
In the next six years, IDOT plans to improve over 3,200 miles of highways and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois initiative. This program is investing $33.2 billion in various modes of transportation.
