CHICAGO, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois State Comptroller Susana Mendoza announced Wednesday that she will not seek re-election.
Mendoza, who has served as Illinois Comptroller since December 2016, said in a video posted to Facebook that she plans to finish her term.Â
Despite entering a challenging position as she began her tenure, Mendoza said she believed in the state's potential "if it had the right leadership."
"I'm so proud to have stepped up in what many warned me at that time would be an impossible job, a lost cause, that our state was too far gone to save," Mendoza said in the video.Â
Mendoza served as the City Clerk of Chicago from 2011-16 before taking office as comptroller.Â
