CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - Mid-Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters will end operations in March after 50 years serving Coles County.Â
In a letter posted to the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page obtained by WAND News, this will be effective March 1.Â
Mid-Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters said the decision "reflects the realities" facing its organization, and was made following a "deep reflection" of its long-term outlook.Â
The organization said in the letter that it will go through a "careful" conclusion of its programs and will be in "clear communication" with families and volunteers up until it closes.Â
"Thank you for being part of our story. It has been a privilege to serve alongside you for the past 50 years," the organization said in the letter.Â
According to its website, Big Brothers Big Sisters connects adult mentors with youth, believing that mentorship can "change lives and change futures."Â
