DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Mother Nature has made it a tough summer for central Illinois farmers.

High winds, heavy rain, hail, tornadoes and flooding have impacted corn and soybean crops.

“We have fields that look amazing and just in really grand, excellent shape,” Doug Gucker at the University of Illinois Extension office in Decatur told WAND News. On the other hand, “We have fields that are going to be average, or less.

June started dry, which has led to some soybean plants being short and ears of corn not filling out.

July and August have seen a wide range of bad weather, which has ruined some crops while leaving pools of water and mud sitting in fields.

Yet, other locations have seen near-perfect conditions.
