SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Springfield Police Department is introducing a tool to help improve public safety and give critical support to officers in the field.
The department officially opened its new real time information center (RTIC). It will deliver real-time information and intelligence during active incidents and ongoing investigations.
The department said it will allow officers and supervisors to make faster, more informed decisions.
"This center enhances the excellent work our officers are already doing every day," said Springfield Police Chief Joe Behl. "The real time information center allows us to get critical information to officers quickly, helping them respond more safely and effectively while better protecting our community."
According to the department, the RTIC is designed to complement — not replace — traditional policing. It will monitor and analyze data from sources like live camera feeds, license plate readers, and other operational systems.
The center will be staffed by a dedicated RTIC tactical analyst.
