SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Camp Butler National Cemetery will host a wreath-laying ceremony on August 14 to honor World War II veterans.

The "Spirit of 45'" event is taking place on the 80th anniversary of President Harry Truman's announcement of Japan's surrender marking the end of the war. 

The ceremony will include remarks by the cemetery, a wreath dedication, a moment of silence and military honors.

It will start at 2 p.m. at the Service Seal Wall on the west side of the cemetery.
