WARRENSBURG, Ill. (WAND) - For the second year, Warrensburg-Latham FFA has hosted Ag Day during National FFA Week.

Each year, FFA chapters around the country celebrate National FFA Week. It's a time to share what FFA is and the impact it has on members.

"FFA is not just farming," said junior Noel Jacobs, secretary for W-L FFA.

Jacobs, who plans to pursue a career in nursing, told WAND News that FFA has given her the skills that she can carry into her future.

During Ag Day at W-L, various agriculture businesses and organizations came together to teach students about their companies and educate them about various ag careers.

Randy McMillen with Sloan Implement participated in Friday's Ag Day. He told WAND News that being a part of Ag Day was important because the students he interacts with are the future workforce.

"We need to bring them on, help them learn more about what we are doing," he said.

McMillen explained that the agriculture industry is driven by technology. Most tractors people see in fields around central Illinois are controlled by computers or have advanced technology that is far different from older engines.

"We need people who can come in and work on computers," he explained. "We have self-driving equipment."

Throughout the morning, W-L students traveled from table to table to learn about future career opportunities and the educational paths they can take after high school.

"It's important for kids to have this. They can go home after this and think about what they want to do when they grow up," said junior Destinee Allen, treasurer for W-L FFA.
