DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and one local organization is helping survivors build a community to support them.
Growing Strong will host its annual Take Back the Night event from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Decatur Public Library.
Take Back the Night is a worldwide event for survivors of sexual assault to come together and empower each other.
The event will serve as a safe space for survivors looking for support.
"A really open space for people to feel welcome, to feel taken seriously, to be believed. So it's really about building community and bringing us together with the same end goal," said Growing Strong Prevention Supervisor Rebecca Strong.
