URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — The city of Urbana will hold a naturalization ceremony to celebrate 60 people from around the world as they become citizens of the United States.
The city of Urbana will host the ceremony in partnership with the U.S. District Court and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on Thursday, July 2.
The ceremony celebrates each candidate's journey to citizenship and their commitment to the rights, freedoms and responsibilities that come with it.
There will be 60 new citizens representing 25 different countries.
"For 250 years, the promise of America has challenged each generation to build a nation that is more just, more welcoming, and more united," Urbana Mayor DeShawn Williams said. "As these individuals become United States citizens, they bring their own stories, talents, and aspirations to that continuing journey. It is a privilege for Urbana to host this ceremony and celebrate this extraordinary milestone with our nation's newest citizens."
The ceremony will start at 2 p.m. in the Hotel Royer Ballroom in downtown Urbana.
