URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - The C-U Safe Routes to School Project, in collaboration with local schools in Urbana, is planning to celebrate International Walk to School Day.
This year's event is scheduled for October 8 and is expected to attract a large turnout of students, parents, and community leaders, including Urbana Mayor DeShawn Williams and the Chief of Police.
The event aims to promote safer walking and biking routes, enhance children's physical activity, and foster connections within the community.
International Walk to School Day is celebrated in the U.S., with over 5,000 events taking place across all 50 states, uniting participants with those in 40 other countries.
The event is coordinated with several local organizations, including Urbana School District #116 and the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District.
