SPRINGFIELD - The Kmart store on West Wabash Avenue in Springfield will close mid-December.
A spokesperson with Sears Holding Corporation tells Wand News a liquidation sale at the Kmart store on Wabash will begin Thursday, September 22nd. Sears Holding Corporation has accelerated the closing of unprofitable stores and has been strategically evaluating store space and productivity.
The closing of the Kmart stores at 2500 W. Wabash leaves Springfield with only one remaining Kmart store.
Employees affected by the closing will be eligible for a severance and opportunity to apply for open positions at other Kmart or Sears stores.
