URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Lawyers defending Brent Christensen say their inquiry is not as far fetched as some are making it seem.
Recently Christensen's lawyers inquired if President Donald Trump spoke with China on the Yingying Zhang murder case.
Recently filed court documents say communication between the White House and Department of Justice is not immune to disclosure and locating the documentation would be relatively easy. The lawyers say they are only searching for a discrete amount of information: they want to know if the White House communicated with the Department of Justice on this case. They say the information is readily available to the United States Attorney's Office and is also obtainable by trial counsel at the Department of Justice.
Christensen's lawyers say they feel the information could affect the outcome of the case. But the actual impact of the information could only be discerned by obtaining the actual information.Â
