DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Tony Piraino knows that fitness tests can push the mind as well as the body.

This Cerro Gordo native has been a gym enthusiast since junior high. But after listening to a podcast featuring the world record holder for the most pull-ups, Piraino got the idea to do air-squats for charity.

His organization of choice is the Marion County Horizon Center of Decatur and Mt Zion.

The current record for most squats in 24 hours is 25,000. It's held by a Rhode Island man who hit the record in September of 2020.

Piraino is in the final month of his preparations and hopes to do about 20 squats per minute.

He'll go for the world record attempt on April 4.
