DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — Danville police say a man has been arrested for shooting a firearm in the 100 block of South State St.

On Sunday evening around 11:15 p.m, Danville officers responded to South State Street to investigate a report of a man shooting a firearm in the area. During the investigation, they identified the suspect as 42-year-old Matthew S. Hill.

Officers attempted to make contact with Hill at a home in the area but he refused to exit.

Officers, along with the Danville Police Department Emergency Response Unit, returned to the home with a search warrant. Hill was taken into custody by ERU members and is currently being held at the Public Safety Building on initial charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

In March 2024, Hill plead guilty to possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison.
