BLUE MOUND, Ill. (WAND) - The coroner is identifying a man who was killed in a grain bin accident in Blue Mound. 

The Macon County Sheriff's Office told WAND News that it was assisting with a grain bin rescue off Pleasant View Road in Blue Mound Wednesday evening.

MCSO said that the person inside the bin died. The Tactical Rescue Team was brought in to recover the body. 

The coroner identified the man as 73-year-old Thomas W. Ritter of Blue Mound. 

Ritter was a dedicated member of the Board of Trustees at Richland Community College, a role he began in 2013. 

"The unexpected passing of Tom leaves a hole in both our hearts and our community. He was a loyal friend, a trusted leader and someone who believed deeply in lifting others up through education. We will honor his memory by carrying forward the good work he began," said Dale Colee, Chairman of Richland's Board of Trustees, in an Aug. 21 statement. 

The investigation is ongoing.
