CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A man was shot overnight in Champaign.Â
The Champaign Police Department was called out at 12:34 a.m. to the 700 block of Mattis Ave. Officers found a 25-year-old Champaign man with potentially life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds to the upper leg.Â
The victim was rushed to the hospital. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Police said their initial investigation shows the man was standing in the courtyard of his apartment complex when an unknown man approached him and opened fire before leaving the scene.
Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is asked to notify the police department.
No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
