SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A man who was stabbed to death during a Springfield home invasion has been identified.Â
On March 24, Springfield Police responded to a 911 call around 1:35 p.m. The caller, in a home on S. 19th Street, said he had confronted a subject inside a residence. When officers arrived, they located a man who had been stabbed inside the home. He was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
The person who was stabbed was not the person who called 911.Â
Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon confirmed that the man who was stabbed was 33-year-old Alonzo Billups. He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arriving.Â
His cause of death was multiple sharp force injuries.Â
The 911 caller was taken to the station to be interviewed by detectives.
The Criminal Investigations Division and the Sangamon County Coroner are investigating the incident.
