LINCOLN, Ill. (WAND) - A roaring fire has caused considerable damage to a building in downtown Lincoln.
Firefighters were called Thursday morning to the 100 block of Sangamon Street. The first floor contained several businesses and the upper floors contained at least four apartments.
No injuries have been reported and everyone inside the building at the time of the fire made it out.
A number of area fire departments have responded to the scene.
Decatur Fire Chief Jeff Abbott said the mutual aid response included a ladder truck to help fight the fire from above. Abbott said a firewall prevented the fire from moving through several more buildings.
Smoke from the fire could be seen from several miles away.
It's not clear how many businesses are impacted or how many people have been displaced because of the fire. Groups and people in Lincoln have already been showing up to provide support.
No word on a cause as firefighters work to put out all the flames and hot spots.
Firefighters also battled heat as temperatures climbed into the upper 80's. Crews were rotating in and out and staying hydrated while on scene.
