MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - A Mattoon man accused of attacking two people with an axe is not fit to stand trial.
The court determined Matthew Estes was not fit to stand trial following a psychological evaluation.Â
Estes was arrested July 16 after the victims told Mattoon police he started attacking them in their home with an axe and a chair.
Both victims were stable following the attack and were treated at the hospital.Â
Estes was not there when police arrived, but was taken into custody later without incident.Â
He will be transported to DHS. A status hearing will be held Nov. 24 at 10 a.m.
