Noah Olson

MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - A Mattoon man who was arrested after he threatened to "kill everyone in the police department" this summer has been sentenced.

The Mattoon Police Department said in a July 22 press release that the incident began when Noah Olson, 29, called about a water leak in his apartment.

Olson reportedly hung up on dispatchers and called back three separate times, becoming more aggressive and agitated each time.

After Olson believed that officers had not arrived fast enough, he threatened a 911 dispatcher, saying that he would "kill everyone in the police department."

Officers arrived on the scene where Olson was said to be erratic in his behavior and threatened officers in person. The officers tried to de-escalate the situation when Olson retreated into his apartment, where he continued to scream at them and other residents in the building and from his window.

Olson was charged with threatening a public official and disorderly conduct.

In court he entered a plea of guilty to disorderly conduct. The charge of threatening a public official was dropped. He was sentenced to 24 months probation and a $500 fine.

He will also have to undergo a mental health evaluation.
