MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - Mattoon Community Unit School District 2 is addressing the district's branding and logos.

Community members have been outspoken on the issue.

"As a district, we are utilizing a block ‘M’ logo, which has seen many variations over the years. By choosing to brand consistently across the district, we are attempting to establish a distinct identity, which is easily recognizable throughout our community and beyond," the District said in a statement on Facebook.

Comments were limited on the Facebook post.

The District continued, "Along with creating a sense of pride, maintaining a consistent brand can also enhance recruitment and retention efforts in an already competitive environment and generate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships, and community involvement initiatives that can benefit students and the larger school community."

When it comes to the traditional Green Wave logo, the District said, "The crest water wave logo, along with all of our historical logos, to our knowledge, are not trademarked and can be used freely by the public."

"Our logos and color schemes maintain consistency across all communication channels for our schools throughout the school district."
