(WAND) - The administration building at the Menard Correctional Center is being demolished.
The Illinois Department of Corrections shared photos of the demolition on its Facebook page.Â
The building is four stories tall and was built in 1878.
It was 56,178 square feet.
It was the second-oldest operating prison in the state.
The Illinois Department of Corrections called the demolition the "end of an era."
