DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A motorcyclist was airlifted after a crash in Decatur Wednesday night.

At 8:05 p.m. Decatur Police were called to the intersection of Oakland Ave. and Marietta St. for a crash.

Police said a motorcycle was going northbound on Oakland, approaching Marietta at a high rate of speed with its headlight out.

A personal vehicle was traveling southbound on Oakland at Marietta.

Police said the driver of the car started to turn left to go east on Marietta and was hit by the motorcycle.

The driver of the car, a 46-year-old Decatur man, was not injured.

The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old man from Decatur, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital before being airlifted to a regional trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

Decatur Police said there are no indications that the driver of the car was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

DPD said the motorcyclist did not have valid driver’s license and had a Blood Alcohol Content of .113. He was cited for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.

Members of the DPD Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and are investigating the crash.
