Amid bankruptcy, some Publishers Clearing House winners are facing the end of 'forever' prizes

NEW YORK (AP) — For decades, Publishers Clearing House doled out hefty checks on the doorsteps of hopeful consumers across the U.S., including prizes that boasted lifetime payouts. But some of those winners are now facing an end to the “forever” money they were once promised. The turmoil arrives amid PCH’s ongoing bankruptcy process. In July, ARB Interactive bought some of PCH's assets and launched "PCH Digital." ARB says it won't pay prizes won before July 15, except for two unawarded "SuperPrizes." ARB added that it aims to restore trust in the PCH brand and ensure future prizes are honored under a new paying structure. PCH did not immediately provide further information.

Tesla under investigation after parents say faulty door handles trapped their kids in the back

Federal auto safety regulators opened an investigation Tuesday into a possible defect in Tesla door handles that have reportedly left parents unable to reach into back seats to get their children out of the cars. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that its preliminary evaluation is for the 2021 Tesla Model Y. The agency said that the electronic door handles of the vehicle may become inoperative due to low battery voltage and impede vehicle reentry and leave passengers trapped inside. The agency said it received four reports of parents breaking windows to remove a child. The investigation covers approximately 174,300 of the midsize SUVs.

But the matcha market is troubled. In Japan, one of the biggest matcha producers, poor weather reduced this year’s harvest. Matcha is still plentiful in China, another major producer, but labor shortages and high demand have also raised prices there. U.S. tariffs are also making matcha more expensive for Americans.
