SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Illinois Department of Transportation opened a call Tuesday for locations for a special round of funding through the Illinois National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program.

About $30 million is available through the program's fourth round of funding availability.

Applications are due by July 20. The application requires the submission of site location information, including a map, simple schematic and photos as well as answers to basic questions about the proposed project. Application materials can be found here.

Locations can be anywhere in the state and may be designed to serve passenger vehicles as well as medium to heavy duty vehicles. Projects must comply with federal rules and requirements for the NEVI program, which allows for construction of DC fast chargers, slower Level 2 chargers, or a combination of the two.

An announcement of selected locations will be made at the end of August.

IDOT is hosting an information webinar on Wednesday, July 8, at 1 p.m. Registration can be made here.
