DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – At least two tornadoes hit Macon County Sunday afternoon with one tornado causing damage to at least nine home between Decatur and Mount Zion, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.

The Macon County Emergency Management Agency confirmed a tornado briefly touched down near Blue Mound around 3:05 p.m., crossing Route 48. It did not cause any damage. A second tornado touched down around 3:10 p.m. in the Long Creek area.

Several homes along Jeanette Drive, Skyline Drive, Walmsley Road, Bentonville Road, and Baltimore Avenue sustained damage, including several homes that lost their roofs.

The weather service reported at least nine homes with damage in the Long Creek area but damage surveys were expected to continue on Monday. The EMA did not have an exact number of homes Sunday night.

There have been no reports of injuries. Macon EMA said everyone that was displaced was provided with shelter, and officials are working with the American Red Cross.

First responders asked people to avoid areas with damage to allow crews and emergency workers to get to people who might need assistance.

As of 8 a.m. Monday, Ameren reported more than dozen people without power in Macon County. At one point Sunday, outages in the county were over 2,200.

Sunday's storms prompted a number of tornado warnings in the WAND viewing area, but there were no immediate reports of damage outside of Macon County. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Tazwell County Sunday just south of Peoria. The tornado damaged outbuildings, at least one home, and knocked down trees and power lines.

The storms proceeded a strong cold front that caused temperatures to plummet 20 and 30 degrees in some areas after high temperatures on Sunday reached the 60's.

This is a developing story.
