71-year-old man stabbed to death in Champaign, 1 in custody

CHAMPAIGN, Ill (WAND) -- One person is in custody after a man was stabbed to death in Champaign.

It happened in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive around 5:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.

Champaign Police said officers found a 71-year-old Champaign man in his home un-responsive with a life-threatening stab wound. First responders began administering lifesaving measures. But he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the initial investigation shows the man had been involved in a domestic altercation with 67-year-old Dewandee Carter of Champaign when she stabbed him in the chest.

She was arrested and charges are pending.

CPD said, even though an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing.
