PETERSBURG, Ill. (WAND) — A second person killed in a double shooting in rural Petersburg has been identified by the coroner.
 
The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, can confirm the death of Grant Withers, 15, of Petersburg. Grant was taken to the hospital on February 1, after being shot in his home in the 15000 block of Tice Road in Menard County.
 
The Sangamon County Coroner, previously confirmed the death of Richard Withers, 40, of Petersburg, who also died from a gunshot wound he sustained from the same incident.
 
On February 1, 2025 Grant and Richard were transported by EMS from their residence to HSHS St. John’s Hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.
 
Richard was pronounced dead on February 2, at 5:12 p.m.
 
Grant was pronounced dead on February 4, 2025 at 2:38pm.
 
Both deaths are being investigated by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Illinois State Police.
