DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A suspect went into a pawn shop and stole a gun, police say.
Officers report it happened just before 9:45 a.m. on June 22 at Pawn King, which is located at 1550 E. Eldorado St. in Decatur. Police say security cameras showed a man wearing a dark sweatshirt and sweatpants coming in and smashing a display case with a brick. They say Dominique Smith, 20, then stole a semi-automatic 9 mm pistol from it.
A sworn statement says Smith had a cloth over his face, which he removed near the door on his way out. Police say that move exposed his face to cameras.
Officers say they found the Buick the man left in and discovered it actually belonged to a friend of the suspect.
Smith is facing charges of burglary and possession of a stolen firearm. His bond is set at $25,000 in Macon County.
