DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois People's Action, a local community group, protested outside of Millikin University Thursday, opposing ADM and Decatur water's proposed CO2 project.

The protest coincided with ADM's CO2 presentation to the Decatur Chamber of Commerce Business Luncheon at the university.

While this project is supposed to be safe, the group said it is risking the lives of people, animals and plants using the water in Decatur.

Some of their concerns include the potential for contamination of the water supply and the difficulty of cleanup.

Illinois People's Action posted to Facebook Sept. 10 that ADM wants to "dump 95 million tons of dangerous CO2 waste" in the Decatur area, including Lake Decatur.

The group added in the post that the ADM corporation is "already in violation" of the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act following a 2022 accident.
