Red Robin Buzzer Beater Bacon Cheeseburger

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (WAND) — Burger chain Red Robin is considering the closure of around 70 restaurants, according to a recent earnings release.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the company closed one restaurant after the lease expired and is "evaluating alternatives for approximately 70 underperforming restaurant locations, including closure upon expiration of the current lease term."

The chain has nearby locations in Champaign, Springfield, East Peoria, and Edwardsville.

G.J. Hart, Red Robin's President and Chief Executive Officer said, "While financial results for 2024 fell well below our original expectations, we've made substantial improvements to the guest experience and believe we still have a significant opportunity ahead of us to reach the full potential of our iconic brand."

The report did not contain a list of underperforming restaurants, but most are expected to close as their leases expire over the next five years.
