(WAND) - Illinoisians have another scam to be on the lookout for.

Text messages regarding "State Code 15c-16.003" are fake and designed to steal personal information.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias warned residents in a May 27 press release about the rise in DMV text scams.

"Phishing scams are unfortunately an increasingly prevalent threat in our modern society, seeking to cheat Illinoisans out of their personal information and hard-earned money. Please remain vigilant to avoid these scams and report them to protect yourself and others from falling victim to fraud schemes," Giannoulias said in the statement.

Illinois residents were recently warned about scam text messages going around claiming to be from the "Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles."
