DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The city of Decatur announced that boat racing will not be returning to Lake Decatur this September.

The decision came after a successful return of boat racing to the lake this past June when thousands flocked to Nelson Park and the shoreline of Lake Decatur for Hardy’s Highway: Race for the Lake.

According to a post made by the city, it was unable to come to an agreement with the National Boat Racing Association and US Title Series regarding necessary insurance and indemnification agreements. The post noted that these measures are used to protect taxpayer money.

Future boat racing on Lake Decatur is not out of the question in the future.

According to US Title Series, their last race of the year will be in Centralia on Aug. 23-25.
