CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Police are investigating a shooting in Champaign that happened Wednesday night.Â
Champaign police were called to the 2800 block of W. Kirby at 7:15 p.m. for a report of shots fired.Â
They did not find any victims but found evidence of gunfire at the intersection of Stratford Drive and Trafalgar Square.
At 7:30 p.m., a 22-year-old Champaign man contacted police through dispatch to say he had been shot. Officers and medical personnel responded to his location. He had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to an area hospital and later released.
Police said their initial investigation indicates the victim was in a parking lot when shots were fired from a vehicle, and he was struck.
While the motive is still unknown, police don't think this was a random shooting.Â
