DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The new season brings new changes to the Scovill Zoo.
Zoo Director Ken Frye has accepted a new position with the Park District overseeing special recreation and events.
"I'm pretty excited about it. It's going to be completely different than working at the zoo but, we still bring special rec here to the zoo, so I'll still be around," said Frye.

Heather Purdeu will be stepping in as the new Scovill Zoo Director. Purdeu has been with the Zoo for almost 30 years. She started out at a zookeeper, and eventually worked her way up to her current role as the zoo's registrar.
In addition to the changes in management, the zoo recently announced its new addition to the carousel.
Courtesy of long-time zoo volunteer Barb Janes, the carousel will now feature a giraffe as a static animal, making it an ideal choice for children who may be hesitant or less confident about riding carousel animals that move up and down.
