SPRINGFIELD, IL- The murder trial began Tuesday morning for a Springfield woman accused of killing the child she was baby-sitting back in 2008.
Jennifer Bernal, 35, is on trial for first degree murder. She is accused of beating 18 month-old Anthony Romanotto to death.
Anthony died at a Peoria Hospital in December 2008. The Peoria County Coroner ruled that the boy died from trauma to the head.
Prosecutors claim that the head trauma happened while the boy was in Bernal's care at her home on Stanford Avenue in Springfield.
Bernal faces anywhere from 20 years to life in prison if she is convicted.
