You have a chance to own the baseball greats. Mickey Mantle, Nolan Ryan, Ernie Banks, or Johnny Bench. Or how about NBA legends like Wilt Chamberlain or SIU Carbondale star Walt Frazier? These are just some of the sports cards up for auction at the Illinois State Fair.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – You have a chance to own the baseball greats. Mickey Mantle, Nolan Ryan, Ernie Banks, or Johnny Bench. Or how about NBA legends like Wilt Chamberlain or SIU Carbondale star Walt Frazier?

These are just some of the sports cards up for auction at 11 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Illinois State Fair on the Lincoln Stage, all part of the annual Illinois State Treasurer's unclaimed property auction.

There will be 250 lots available. Also in the auction will be jewelry, vintage coins and rare currency like a $500 bill. Included will be a 10-ounce gold bar valued at about $34,000.

The Treasurer collects unclaimed or abandoned property from banks and then attempts to find the rightful owners. After about 10 years, the items are auctioned off, and the cash is held in case the rightful owners eventually come to make a claim.

There will be an auction preview the same morning from 9-11 a.m., at the State Fairgrounds.
