The day after some people are feeling the pinch of paying their taxes, others are hoping to collect unclaimed cash.

The State Treasurer's Office today conducted what it calls "cash-dash searches". The program reunites Illinois residents with unclaimed property ranging from long-lost bank accounts to paychecks not received and overpayments on utility bills.

"We have approximately one billion dollars in assets that we are holding and trying to return to individuals so we're really happy to have a project here with Treasurer Cavanagh here in Sangamon County and to try to return this money to individuals," said Ted Thomas, Outreach Coordinator.

Cash can be claimed year round and residents can search for that lost treasure online by using the link below.
