MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - Lifelong resident and local government professional Bryan E. Smith announced his candidacy for Macon County Clerk Wednesday.
Smith will run in the Democratic primary for the opportunity to win the November 2026 general election.Â
Smith said he is running to ensure the county's residents "receive fair, friendly and professional services."
"There is no Republican or Democratic way to issue birth, death or marriage certificates. There is no Republican or Democratic way to run fair and accessible elections defined by integrity. The hard-working taxpayers of this county deserve the best," Smith said in a press release.Â
Smith has 40 years of experience in professional government services and public service as an elected official.
In that span, he was Executive Director/CEO of the Township Officials of Illinois (TOI) from 1996-2021, served as a Macon County Board Member from 2002-20 and started BS Consulting in 2021, his own local government consulting firm.Â
Smith has also been a substitute teacher in Macon County high schools since 2021.
