CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The "Sunflower Celebration" begins at Clearview Farm, tricked out with a maze through the flowers, food trucks and drinks.
There's a very short time that sunflowers can bloom, drawing crowds to come see them.
"Sunflowers only bloom for about two weeks out of the year, so based on the variety that we plant and the time of year, this is when their blooms emerge," said Sophia Odle, a farm land manager at the site. "We never know exactly when that's going to be, but typically it's in late July or early August."
The event has become something people look forward to every year for the last five years.
Odle said of why so many enjoy the sunflowers, "We have almost a quarter of a million sunflowers out there, and so it's pretty hard to walk out there in the sunflower maze and not feel happy, so it's a nice pick-me-up for people in the community."
If you want to check it out, you do not have much time.
"If you're going to come visit the sunflower maze, you should plan to do so by next weekend," Odle said. "The bloom starts to wilt right away, so we think that by Aug. 8-10, we're going to see the sunflowers start to wilt."
The maze is completely free to enter and is open all day, every day.
