SPRINGFIELD, IL- Some people feel social media doesn't belong in schools, while others feel it could serve a purpose. The Springfield School Board wants to tackle that discussion.

The school district currently restricts teachers and students from being friends with each other on social networks.

Some parents say allowing teachers and students to communicate through social networks could be beneficial. The district says protective measures would have to be put in place for something like that to happen.

Pete Sherman with the Springfield School Distract says the interest in allowing social media in the district is not related to last week's incident involving threats made online by a Lanphier student but has been part of on-going discussions.
