The Giving Fence back in Danville helping families stay warm this winter

DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - The Giving Fence in Danville is back for its fifth year helping families stay warm during the winter.

The Danville Area Chapter of Credit Unions started the event hoping to help families who may not have the funds to purchase a coat.

"You have to choose the thing you're not going to have if you simply don't have enough to make ends meet and that may be a coat or a blanket or something so at least we can help provide those coats," said CEO of Education Personnel Federal Credit Union, Hope Garrett.

It's even turned into a community effort. Other local organizations donate items when they can.

"Some of them get donations of adult coats but that's really not something that they can necessarily use, they don't have programs in place for that. So they'll actually donate the coats that were donated to them, they bring to us," said Garrett.
