CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Mike Ingram has dedicated three years to helping families save money when searching for the perfect prom dress or suit. This year, he's back at it with his annual Prom Dress Giveaway.
"There's a financial barrier that exists there, especially for girls because there's so many different things that they have. Guys can usually just throw on a suit jacket and go, and you know if we can kind of mitigate that I think it's super important," said Ingram.
Organizers have even gone as far as getting a tailor involved to help boys with getting their suits fitted.
"We have a tailor on hand who comes in and does alterations and things like that. She basically just tailored a couple of suits that we got off of Amazon and they looked like they had been made for the boys that got them," explained Ingram.
Everything at the event is free. Ingram also encourages people who aren't looking for prom attire to stop by anyway.
"Our thing is, we don't want anything left over at the end of this event. So, if somebody sees something that they want to wear to a graduation, or to a wedding or something like that take it. Come in and get something for a job interview if you want." stated Ingram.
The C-U Area Prom Giveaway will continue to accept donations of:
- dresses (formal/non-formal)
- shoes
- suits
- bags
- jewelry
- unopened makeup
- nail polish
- beauty products
- purses
