DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - WAND is in the process of replacing the main top mounted antenna, which is required by the FCC. While work is underway you may experience a disruption in signal.
The interruptions and signal strength only impact those who receive WAND News over-the-air by antenna or those who use a satellite provider who pulls from our over the air signal.Â
Crews working say they expect the project will be completed in the coming week, if weather is cooperative. There have been and may be interruptions to our power at that time as the workers to climb the tower safely. After the work is complete or workers are no longer on site, we will restore power.Â
The team of workers climb the tower to put the antenna mount that weighs over 16,000 pounds at the top. From there they will add the 12,500 antenna to the top.Â
The crew has to climb 1,242 feet to mount the antenna to the top of the tower.Â
Once the project is completed, WAND's signal should be at full capacity and reaching Central Illinois homes with a stronger signal.Â
