EFFINGHAM----The Illinois Department of Transportation, Region 4/District 7, wants drivers to be aware of yearly maintenance about to begin on state highways.
Striping operations will begin on state highways Monday, May 23. Traffic Operations Unit Chief Mike Worthey says the pavement striping equipment travels at 15 MPH when applying the paint stripes, so motorists need to be alert and slow down and pass only when it is safe.
More than 2,000 miles of pavement in the district will have a new center line, edge line, and no passing zones by the end of October.
Region 4/District 7 includes the counties of Clark, Clay, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Edwards, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Lawrence, Macon, Moultrie, Richland, Shelby, Wabash and Wayne.
