DECATUR, IL- An overhaul to Decatur's trash and recycling system is coming soon.
Trash pick-up will be offered only once-a-week and residents can choose between two options for how many garbage cans or totes will be picked up.
The basic service plan will include pick-up of up to three 32 gallon cans or one 96 gallon can. The expanded basic service will allow up to six 32 gallon cans or two 96 gallon cans.
The basic plan will cost $14.50 each month and the expanded plan will cost $17.50 each month.
Residents will also be able to choose between two plans for yard waste pickup and be able to request a recycling tote.
Basic yard waste pick-up will have no additional cost. Those who choose the premium yard waste pick-up plan will receive unlimited pick-up. That plan will cost $1 each month.
Recycling customers can continue to use their current recycling bin or request a new 65 gallon cart from the city. Â
A notice will be sent out in the mail starting next week with directions on how to choose a new garbage plan.
Decatur City Manager Ryan McCrady says that the garbage plan residents pick could end up saving them money each month.
The garbage changes are set to go into effect April 1st.
