MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - Two suspects were caught following a police chase through Macon County with the help of armed homeowners.Â
On Tuesday at 5:20 p.m., Macon County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Casey’s General Store located at 290 South North St. in Argenta regarding a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot.
The suspicious vehicle was previously reported to the Decatur Police Department as stolen.
Deputies found the stolen vehicle. Two men were inside.
Deputies tried to detain the men, but they allegedly took off, striking a Deputy’s squad car and fleeing the scene.
Deputies gave chase and tried to stop the vehicle but lost sight of it.
The Maroa Police Department helped in the search and with witness information, found the vehicle wrecked in a farm field near the intersection of Cemetery Road and Duroc Road.
Deputies, with the additional assistance of the Oreana Police Department, Illinois State Police and the Illinois Conservation Police, searched the area for the two men.Â
Deputies received a report that the men were outside a nearby residence seeking refuge but were met by the homeowner armed with a firearm. One of the men was apprehended and taken into custody by law enforcement at this location.
The other man had fled to another nearby residence before being met by that homeowner. The second suspect was intercepted by the homeowner armed with a firearm.
The homeowner held the suspect at gunpoint and called 911.
The second suspect was then taken into custody by law enforcement at the second location.Â
The individuals arrested were identified as Tyler Crum, 33, of Heyworth. He was charged with Aggravated Battery to Peace Officer, Aggravated Fleeing & Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and Resisting/Obstructing Peace Officer.
In accordance with the Pretrial Fairness Act he was released from custody with a Notice to Appear.
Also arrested was James Snow, 34, from Urbana. He was charged with Aggravated Fleeing & Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and Resisting/Obstructing Peace Officer.
He is currently in custody of the Macon County Jail for an outstanding Parole Violation warrant through the Illinois Department of Corrections.
In June 2024, Snow was sentenced to 2 years in prison for  Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. His other charges were dropped.Â
