DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Across the country, millions of Americans are affected by Alzheimer's. Here in Decatur, community members came together to help fight and fund a cure.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's took place Saturday morning in Decatur. A morning encouraging togetherness and community, while fighting for that unknown cure.Â
Viewer Christine Haskell told WAND News her group Gigi's Gang was walking in memory of Gigi.
"This is a disease that's impacting people earlier and earlier. It's no longer an older person's disease," said Kate Williston, Executive Co Chair for Alzheimer's Walk Committee.
Organizers of the walk shared how much it means to see small town support, with local vendors and coffee set ups in the pavilion before the walk. Â
Diana Clark, one of the walkers, said, "If it affected our family, it can affect many millions more. And I don't want to see that because it's a very hard disease to deal with. There's not much we can say other than, let's get this figured out."
